Branchville
Alfred Heaton Smoak, 88 years of age, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in Greenville, SC.
Born in Branchville, SC, a son of the late John Gary Sr. and Leckie Heaton Smoak, Mr. Smoak was a registered engineer in multiple states.
He retired from Great Lakes Carbon Corp. as Director of Design Engineering.
He also held positions as Director of Engineering for Great Lakes Research Corp. and Executive VP of Great Lakes Carbon Engineering Company. He served two terms as Mayor of Branchville, SC. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and he graduated from Clemson University.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at Branchville Baptist Church, with Dr. Richard Porter and Rev. Steve Mims officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M., at the fellowship hall of Branchville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Tivie Walters Smoak, of Greenville, SC, four children, Ronald Alfred Smoak (Lee), Robert Craig Smoak (Monette), Bradley David Smoak (Jane),
Susan Smoak Cissel (Harris); seven grandchildren, Christopher Smoak (Christina), Daniel Smoak (Meg Chieffe), Grace Smoak, Emily Cissel, Renee Smoak, Brian Smoak, and Paige Cissel; and one great-grandchild, Elise Smoak, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. William O'Quinn, Carol Copes, the staffs of Emeritus at Greenville and Gentiva Hospice. Memorials may be made to Branchville Baptist Church or the charity of one's choice. Ott Funeral Home in Branchville is in charge of arrangements.
