Carlyle "Sandy " L Blackmon's Obituary
Carlyle (Sandy) L Blackmon III, husband of Meri Fletcher Blackmon, peacefully entered into eternal rest at home on December 20, 2023, at the age of 76. He is survived by his devoted wife, Meri, step-daughter Ann McIntosh-Hill and her children Mary Kathryn (Katy) Hill and Tanner Reed Craps. Extended family members include Karen Folk Herndon (Larry) and their children Henry (Hank) Herndon (Aleska), Corey Herndon (Morgan), Sarah Herndon Terry (Josh) and several other cousins.Sandy, the only son of Carlyle L. Blackmon, Jr. and Ruth G. Blackmon, was born at the Charleston Naval Hospital on February 27, 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a graduate of St. Andrew's High School in 1967 and attended the Citadel. He later followed in his father's footsteps by serving as a Lieutenant in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. Professionally, he was a salesman for Blanchard Machinery and Peterbilt.In his later years, he and his wife Meri enjoyed their shared passion for travel taking over 100 cruises to destinations all over the world. He had a larger than life personality and, until the very end, was full of tall tales detailing the many travel adventures he and his wife had taken.In recent years he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and, until the last few weeks, continued to go and do as much as he could taking his last cruise with his wife and extended family over Thanksgiving.Sandy will be missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on through his family and friends.A memorial service will be held Saturday January 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at New Hope UMC..
