David Lucius Thompson's Obituary
DL Thompson passed away on January 11, 2025 at the age of 72, after a long illness. DL was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. DL was born and raised in Branchville, South Carolina. Following his graduation from Branchville High School in 1970, he attended the University of South Carolina. DL worked for many years as a structural engineer with Fluor Daniel Construction and later for Bellamy Brothers Construction. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jenny Thompson, daughters Lauren Thompson and Katy (Bruce) Gustafson, three brothers "Bubba" Thompson, Randy (Rhonda) Thompson, and Jerry (Cindy) Thompson, sister Libby Fairey, grandson Clyde Gustafson, and a number of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Maude "GMT" Thompson.
DL lived his faith every day and loved his family with all his heart. He blazed the path for his beloved girls by being the first to meet God and enter heaven. He never knew a stranger and would always lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone.
DL's family will receive friends on Monday, January 13th from 6-8 PM at Ott's Funeral Home in Branchville. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, January 14th at 3:30 PM at the Branchville Christian Church, with burial to follow at Thompson Cemetery. Those honored to be pallbearers are his nephews: Chris Fairey, Shawn Fairey, Chad, Todd, Tyler, Heston, and Brent Thompson, Samuel Campbell, and Nathan DeTurk ("Doctor Nate").
