- To the family of Herman C. Leonhardt ,please except the condolences from Fred Rhoad and myself on the passing of Herman. I learned of his passing by chance while going thur the Charleston newspaper Saturday and passed the news to Fred Rhoad. Fred who is from the area, recounted the many times that he fished and camped with Herman . While visiting Fred on a fishing trip to the river ,I,myself had the good chance to meet Herman and get a chance to visit his home/studio on the river along with seeing his artwork . Since we didn't know Herman's family or their addresses we are using this format to express our condolences instead of a note. With Fred moving from the coast to Charlotte with his wife, its rare that we get together anymore and only do so if he by chance is down seeing his people. We can see why Herman choose to live-work on the river. Since I use the internet more than Fred,I'm writing for the both of us and hope this gets received in a timely matter.Again the two of us are sorry for your loss and we ourselves will feel something is missing while out on the river with Herman passing on. My prayers are with Herman and his family.
I'm sadden by the sudden and premature passing of Herman. Of course, we all knew him as 'The Swamp Man' and his beautiful glass works grace our homes, his iron works our gardens and his fabulous jewelry our necks and earlopes. He was a unique individual -- most certainly a fantastic artist, but also one with a funny tale, a quick smile and a witty comment. He viewed the world in an interesting way and I will miss his greatly, as will many others. Peace be with you, Herman. There will be one lonely corner of the Farmer's Market and I will miss our Saturday morning visits!
Sorry I can't be there.

So sorry to hear of Hermans passing. He was a master glass blower. Always enjoyed going to Branchville to visit.
Our thoughts & prayers to family. I met Herman by way of my wife Maggie in 1991. Some of the most relaxing & adventurous times were spent with him conversing as we floated on inner tubes down the Edisto. Herman's stories, humor & views of life captured my attention. He never let us go back home without giving us veggies he grew & glass he blew. We'll miss him. God bless!
