Herman Platt Myers' Obituary
Branchville
Mr. Herman Platt "Sam" Myers, 92 years of age, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Mr. Myers was born June 18, 1916, a son of the late Leon M. Myers and Malvenia M. Myers. Mr. Myers was a graduate of Branchville High School, CCC, and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was the oldest member of Prospect Southern Methodist Church where he served as a past steward, and trustee; he was the oldest member of The Branchville Masonic Lodge, #110 AFM. Mr. Myers was preceded by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Margaret Hutto Myers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and baseball.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 27, 2009, at 3:00P.M., at the chapel of Ott Funeral Home in Branchville, with Rev. Wendell Holland and Rev. Bobby Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery near Dorange, with full Masonic rites. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Pallbearers are Frankie McAlhany, Trey McAlhany, Don Kizer, Steve McMillan, Tyler McMillan, Wilber "Bubba" Steedly, Vernon Ott Jr., Milton Myers, and Neil Myers.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet M. McAlhany (Franklin) of Branchville, and Lena M. Kizer (Donnie) of St. George, three grandchildren, Frankie (Leigh Ann) McAlhany, Beth (Steve) McMillan, and Don (Heather) Kizer, four great grandchildren, Trey, Tyler, Erin, and Amelia, and a number of nieces and nephews.
