James L. Padgett Sr., 78 years of age, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at his residence. James was born in Smoaks, a son of the late Richard E. Padgett and Jennie Barnes Padgett. He loved fishing and gardening. He served in the United States Marines and the United States Navy. He was a member of Berea Advent Christian Church, and he was the widower of the late Luciana G Padgett.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at Berea Advent Christian Church, with Rev. Mike Lupo officiating. Burial will be in Hagan Cemetery in Smoaks. The family will receive friends one hour before services.
He is survived by one son, James L. Padgett Jr., one grandson, James L. Padgett III (Flora Nettles) of Smoaks, one sister, Jennie P. Jeffcoat (Jerry) of Gaston, one brother, Joe B. Padgett (Janet) of Smoaks, and a number of nieces and nephews.
