Kingstree
Mrs. Jerry Jacqueline (Brantley) Reeves, 76, of Kingstree died on Sunday, December 30 in Lexington, SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ernest R. Reeves, who died in March of this year.
Mrs. Reeves was born in Waycross, Georgia on December 3, 1931. She was the second oldest of 12 children of Jerry M. and Modell Brantley. She graduated from high school in Waycross, then moved to South Carolina to attend nursing school in Orangeburg, where she met her future husband. They moved to Kingstree in 1956.
Mrs. Reeves devoted her life to her family and to serving others, especially children. She was director of the First Baptist Church kindergarten in Kingstree in the 1960s. She taught Sunday School and played piano at Kingstree United Methodist Church. She was a Cub Scout leader. A registered nurse, she worked at Kingstree Hospital and was Director of Nursing at Kingstree Nursing Home.
She and her husband had three sons. She was also a foster parent and welcomed many foster children into her home and family.
She loved music, reading, and her garden, which overflowed with azaleas, irises and camellias. A favorite spot was her kitchen, where she excelled at pecan pies, sweet potato casserole, red velvet cake, and preserves from the fig and pear trees in her back yard.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas J. Reeves of Lexington SC and Ernest (Jay) Reeves Jr. of Chapel Hill NC, and five grandchildren. Her youngest son Robert died in 1970.
She is also survived by her siblings: Billy Brantley, Jimmy Brantley, Curtis Brantley, Richard Brantley, Lamar Brantley, Gloria Jordan and Teresa Kimbrell, all of Georgia, Catherine Murray of Florida, and Barbara Sceals of Tennessee.
A graveside service will be held at Ott Cemetery in Branchville on January 3 at 12:00 P.M., with visitation at Ott Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M.. Ott Funeral Home in Branchville is in charge of arrangements.
