Joe Barnes Padgett's Obituary
Mr. Joe Barnes Padgett, husband of 54 years to Janet J. Padgett, of Beulah Road in Smoaks, passed away at his residence early morning of May 8, 2025.
Born September 15, 1948, in Colleton County, he was the son of the late Richard Edward Padgett and Jennie Barnes Padgett. He graduated from Bells High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He spent many years as a shipyard pipefitter before retiring from the VA hospital in Columbia.
Mr. Padgett loved hunting and fishing, especially with his lifelong friend, Russell Barnes. But he loved nothing more than his grandchildren. He spent so much time following all their sports and activities, always there to support.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is his son Shannon Padgett of Smoaks, and daughter Jodi Sullivan (Ron) of Brunson. Grandchildren, Gage Sullivan (Sydney), Aspen Sullivan (Carson), Daveny Sullivan (Carsyn) and Rafe Sullivan, all from Brunson. Allison Padgett of Branchville. Great Grandchild, Raelynn Hiott of Walterboro and honorary grandchild, Ryan Sauls from Brunson.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Amedisys hospice and especially his caregivers, Heather Delong, and Kayla Hiers for their dedication and love.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, May 13,2025 at Buckhead Advent Christian Church in Smoaks, SC. Burial will follow at Hagan Cemetery in Smoaks, SC.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 12, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Ott Funeral home, Branchville, SC.Pallbearers will be Gage Sullivan, Rafe Sullivan, Carson Poston, Carsyn Peeples, Tony Jeffcoat and Austyn Jeffcoat.
