John David Collins' Obituary
Branchville
John David Collins, 85 years of age, died Sunday, April 23, 2017. John was born in Branchville, a son of the late Henry Collins and Susie Smoak Collins. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954; he spent time in Korea, Japan, China, Philippines, and Guam. After returning home, he married a girl who lived just a few miles up the road from his house. He worked at Azalea Meat for 20 years, Old Fort Packing House for 2 years, he worked as a meat cutter for 40 plus years at IGA. John served as music director for 27 years at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Sunday School Director, and Training Union Director, Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and served on the Building Committee for many years. He was the widower of the late Joyce Collins.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Lighthouse Community Baptist Church, in St. George, with his grandson, Rev. Jonathon Collins, and Rev. Rawls Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.
John is survived by one son Jeff Collins (Sherry) of St. George, four grandchildren, Jeffrey Collins (Grier), Jamie Collins (Cayce) both of St. George, Jonathan Collins, of Alabama, and Lauren Collins, of North Carolina, one great grandchild, Cade Collins. He is preceded in death by a son John Collins Jr.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 6 to 8 PM, at Ott Funeral Home in Branchville; at other times, friends may call at Jeff & Sherry's home in St. George. Memorials may be made to Lighthouse Community Baptist Church, 5801 W. Jim Bilton Blvd., St. George, SC 29477.
