John Shelvy Howell
John passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2026 at the age of 86. He was the son of the late Charles Edward Howell and Lorena Belle (Potter) Howell.
John was a retired 20 year veteran of the US Navy. He served during the time of the Vietnam war as an optical repair specialist for the military. John spent most of his retirement years on his small farm in Branchville, SC gardening and caring for the farm with his wife. He designed and built his own house where he lived with his loving and devoted wife Mary who preceded his on January 31, 2026.
He had great pleasure riding his motorcycle and traveled quite extensively with trips back home to Indiana and out west. He loved going to the ocean fishing in his boat before they bought their farm.
John is survived by two daughters Chrissy and Carrie, one brother George William Howell and two sisters Ruth Ellen McClure, and Jo Kathleen Howell. He is preceded in death by sisters Doris Jean Crump, Margaret Louise Harris, brothers Nelson Edward Howell, David Lee Howell, and Dennis Ray Howell.
No immediate services have been planned at this time. A casting of the ashes ceremony for Mary and John will be held in the near future at their farm in Branchville, SC.
