John C. "Buddy" Dukes Jr. was born on September 20, 1933, and entered eternal rest on May 24, 2011, at the Medical University of South Carolina, after a brief battle with cancer.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, at the age of 17, and served his country for 20 years, before receiving an honorable discharge. With many accomplishments during his career, he was most proud of defending our country during the Vietnam War. He had a passion for motorcycle riding from an early age, that lasted throughout his entire life. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, camping, and gardening.
He was the son of Mabel Dukes and the late John C. Dukes of Branchville. He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Janie Dukes, his mother, two sisters, Janet (Chuck) Tuttle of Branchville, and Jackie Womack of McKinney, Texas. He is also survived by three children, Cheryl (David) Steen , Lucy (David) Light, and John (Patsy) Dukes, grandchildren, Jamie (Sean) Hamilton, David "Buck" Steen, Kevin Steen ( Angie Dawson), Travis Steen, John "Jay" (Geri) Dukes, Brandi (Trenton) Wiles, Lacy (David) Carter, and Kayla Light. His great grandchildren are Christian and Hunter Hamilton, Brittani Steen, Jacob and Jesse Wiles, Jayce Tanner, Kayden Dukes, and Abigail and Tenley Carter.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 27th, at 11:00 A.M. at Ott Funeral Home Chapel. Friends and family may call at the residence. On line condolences can be sent to www.ottfh.com.
