John Clyde McAlhany's Obituary
Branchville
Mr. John Isaac Clyde McAlhany, 82 years of age, died Saturday, November 14, 2009. Mr. McAlhany was born in Branchville, the son of the late Isaac Clyde McAlhany and Mary Elizabeth Berry McAlhany. He was a graduate of the Branchville High School. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1951. He owned and operated McAlhany Drug Co. in Branchville and retired as Chief of Pharmacy from the Veterans' Administration in Columbia. He was a member of Branchville Baptist Church, Branchville Masonic Lodge #110 A.F.M., Omar Shrine, Omar Safety Patrol, and Branchville American Legion. He was an avid Gamecock fan and Gamecock Club member for over 50 years. He traveled on the "Wayward Bus" to USC away games for many years. He was the widower of the late Dicksie Jo Walters McAlhany, and a lifelong resident of the community.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 16, 2009 at 3:30 P.M. at Ott Funeral Home in Branchville with Rev Jerry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Ott Cemetery in Branchville. Pallbearers will be Kelsey Gunter, Matthew Summers, Steve Summers, Corey McAlhany, Chris Ott, and V.J. Dukes.
He is survived by one son, John Isaac Clyde "Ike" McAlhany Jr. and wife Andrea, of Columbia, three daughters, Jenny Thompson and husband D.L. of Branchville, Mollie Asbell and husband Crawford of Tignall GA, and Lisa Campbell and husband Mark of Lexington. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Lauren and Katy Thompson, Ashley Asbell, Kira and Samuel Campbell, Kelli Jo McAlhany and Stevi Aaron, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. McAlhany was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Young, and Mary Elizabeth "Dibbie" Joseph.
