Bowman
Johnny Summers, 84 years of age, 1525 Mt. Tabor Road, Bowman, S. C. passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015. The funeral will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 1425 Mt. Tabor Road, Bowman, SC, with the Reverend Bobby Etheridge and Reverend Corey Leggett officiating.
Mr. Summers was born on November 17, 1930. He was the son of the late Eddie Lee Summers and Pauline Metts Summers. He graduated from Branchville High School.
Upon completion of high school, Mr. Summers served for several years in the US Navy. He was a retired insurance agent and manager of Southland Life and Life of Georgia Insurance Companies. He was also owner of Summers Insurance Agency Inc. He was a member of the Life Underwriters Training Council, as well as being a past Gideon and an honorary member of Buckhead Hunting Club. In his retirement, he enjoyed nature and outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved the Edisto River, as well as spending time at Coffin Point, Beaufort, SC. He dearly loved his family; his pride and his joy were his grandchildren and his eight great grandchildren.
He was a lifelong active member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church where he served as a member of the adult Sunday School Class, past deacon, past Sunday School Superintendent, and past Sunday School Teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Collier Summers, a son, J. Steve Summers (friend Amy Spell), Branchville, two daughters, Paula Elaine Summers, Bowman, Gayle(Steve) McAlhany, Branchville, three grandchildren, Corey(Echo) McAlhany, Matthew(Kristi) Summers, and Somer Lynne(Ryan) Haigler. He has eight great grandchildren, Keelie, Kambell and Noah Summers, Cadence and Rhett McAlhany, and Barbara Lynne, Sarah Jane and Joseph Steven Haigler, also a brother, Laverne E. (Alycone) Summers and sister Nona(Curtis) Clark of Bamberg and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter in law, Barbara(Babs) Summers.
Visitation was held Wednesday, September 23, at Mt Tabor Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence.
