"In Loving Memory of Larry Hendricks"
Larry Hendricks, 89, of Branchville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 26, 1935, in Branchville, where he lived his entire life. Larry was known for his unwavering love for his family and his passion for trains and the railroad.
After graduating from Branchville High School, he pursued a career with Southern Railroad which eventually transitioned to Norfolk Southern Railway. He retired from there after over 40 years of service where he climbed the ladder of flagman all the way to conductor. He also served as the courier for Orangeburg County School District 4 for many years.
Larry was a devoted husband to his wife, Joe Ann Turner Hendricks, who passed away in 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Raysor) Griffith; his grandchildren, Ray (Megan) Griffith, Kyle (Amanda) Griffith, Leslie Hendricks and Ashley Davis Shuler; his great grandchildren, Kylee, Kinlyn and Kole Griffith and Baylee Shuman; many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons Larry Lester Hendricks and Julius Daniel Hendricks; his parents, JD and Vivian Hendricks; his twin brother, Harry Hendricks; his half sister, Margaret Garris Frazier; and his half brother, Rufus Rhoad.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his caregivers; Carol Copes, Ruthie Fuller, Megan McCormick, and Kathy Thompson, whose kindness and dedication brought great comfort to Larry and his family. The family would also like to send a special thank you to the staff at Jolley Acres Healthcare Center of Orangeburg, South Carolina for their compassionate care and unwavering support during Larry's final days.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 22, 2024 at Ott Funeral Home at 2pm with visitation at 1pm and burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery. The family will receive visitors and calls at the home of Larry Hendricks, 751 North Street, Branchville, SC 29432.
Pallbearers will be Ray Griffith, Kyle Griffith, Bill Hendricks, Brent Hendricks, Mitch Hendricks, and Randy Carrigg. Honorary pallbearers will be Kole Griffith and Johnny Chavis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorials be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in memory of Larry Hendricks.
