Laverne Eddie "Bernie" Summers' Obituary
Laverne Eddie "Bernie" Summers, age 90, of Bowman, SC, saw the face of Jesus on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. He was born on September 13, 1934, to the late Eddie & Pauline Summers. He retired as supervisor at Westvaco Papermill in Charleston and served in the National Guard for many years. He was a graduate of Branchville High School. He was a faithful member at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and served on the Mt. Tabor Cemetery Committee for many years. He loved God, his wife of 69 wonderful years, his children, grands, great-grands, all of his family and friends that he's left behind.
He loved spending time with his family, traveling with his wife throughout the entire United States and frequent visits to Pigeon Forge, TN. He loved farming, cleaning his yards (especially cutting the grass), chewing his tobacco, counting his cows on the four-wheeler, laughing, spending time with people, going out to eat, and making sure his family was taken care of. He always blessed the food with his special prayer and made sure everyone had enough to eat. If something needed to be done, he never hesitated to do it and without complaint. To some in the community he was affectionately referred to as the "Mayor of Pea Ridge". He was a very patient man, easy going and would go out of his way to do for his family and those in need.
He is survived by his children, Ronnie (Lanee) Summers, Wanda (James) Wiles, his grandchildren, Ashley (Adam) Murray, Cullen Summers, Jay (Hannah) Wiles, Lee (Bonnie) Wiles; five great-grandchildren, Ava & Anaston Murray, Regan, Micah, & Cora Wiles; his sister, Nona (Curtis) Clark, brother-in-law, Wayne (Brenda) Dukes, sister-in-laws; Edith Dukes & Gerry Dukes along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tee Summers, child, Tara Elizabeth, his parents, step-mother, Annie Bell Summers, brother, Johnny Summers, sister-in-law, Mary Summers, & brother-in-laws, Philip "Duck" (Marlene), Gene, and HL Dukes.
A celebration of life service will be held at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church on December 14, 2024 at 11am and officiated by Rev. Jay Johnson and Rev. Bobby Etheridge. A visitation will be held at 10am, one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers are Jay Wiles, Lee Wiles, Cullen Summers, Adam Murray, Phil Dukes, Sandy Dukes, Gene Dukes, Steve Summers, Gregg Clark, & John Clark.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mt. Tabor cemetery fund.
