Branchville
Mr. Luther H. Folk, 87 years of age, died Sunday June 9, 2013. Mr. Folk was born April 9, 1926, in Branchville, a son of the late William Lawton Folk, and Louise B. Folk. At age 17, he entered in the U.S. Navy; he attended Branchville School, and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1950. He became a strong Gamecock fan, following the team for all the home, and away games, and was a life time alumni member. Mr. Folk worked at Tobias Real estate, the Wannamaker Chemical Co., the Branchville shirt plant, as secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Folk was active in civic and political affairs, serving as Branchville Town Councilman for 29 years, he was appointed by President John F. Kennedy as Branchville Postmaster for 28 years, and he was a member of Branchville Masonic Lodge #110 AFM, Elks Club, and the VFW. He was the Branchville Town Magistrate for many years, he was a dedicated member of Branchville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and treasure for 30 years, and he was a lifelong resident of the Branchville community.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday June 12, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at Branchville Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Mims officiating. Burial will be in Ott Cemetery in Branchville.
Survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Janice M. Folk, and her children, Bill (Connie) Varn, Kathleen Varn, Dr. Bob (Bobbie) Varn, Connie (Tommy) Covington, one brother, Ralph Folk, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday June 11, 2013, from 6 to 8 P.M. at Ott Funeral Home in Branchville, and at other times, friends may call at the residence. Memorials can be made to Branchville Baptist Church, or the charity of one's choice. The family would like to give special thanks the staff of the Methodist Oaks, for all of their care for our loved one.
