Marion Fairey Knight's Obituary
Marion Glenn Fairey Knight, 86 years old of Branchville, SC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Neville Harris Knight. Marion loved the Lord, her family and her church.
Marion was born in Branchville on December 8, 1937, upstairs in her grandparents' home. She was the daughter of the late Marion Norman "Red" Fairey and Florence Maggie Jones Fairey. She graduated from Branchville High School in 1955 as class salutatorian and then from the University of South Carolina in 1959 with a degree in Business Administration. She went to work at First Federal of South Carolina in Orangeburg and then as the secretary to the School Superintendent and Title I Coordinator of Branchville High School until 1971 when she decided to stay home to care for her mom and raise her daughters. Marion was a lifelong member of Branchville Baptist Church, where she served in several capacities over the years. She helped wherever there was a need, such as working with children's programs in the afternoons after school and serving as a Sunday School teacher at various times to youth and adult classes.
In addition to her husband Neville, Marion is survived by her daughter, Florence Michelle Knight and son in love Gene Lightfoot of Branchville, SC; daughter Marion Gwyn Knight of Staunton, VA; grandchildren, Joshua Harrison Knight of Las Vegas, NV; Kaylee Ford Bibler (Preston) of West Ashley, SC and Gracelyn Elaine Mercer of North Charleston, SC. She is also survived by a sister in love Sara Carson Fairey of St. Matthews, SC as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Norman Lewis "Bubba" Fairey.
Services will be Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Branchville Baptist Church at 2:00PM with burial at Sardis Cemetery in Branchville, SC. A visitation will be from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Ott Funeral Home in Branchville, SC. The family will also receive friends at the home of Gene and Michelle Lightfoot, 6743 Freedom Road, Branchville, SC 29432. The family asks that memorials be made to the Branchville Baptist Church Building Fund, Branchville Baptist Church, PO Box 116, Branchville, SC 29432.
