Marion Cameron Metts, born on September19,1922, entered into eternal rest on April 10,2016. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Metts Cemetery, Clarence Road, Branchville, SC, officiated by son in law, Brian Waller, and assisted by Kathryn Metts Murray and Bonnie Metts Waller, daughters. The family will greet relatives and friends following the service.
Mr. Metts was born in Branchville, a son of the late Cameron Preston Metts and Sarah Williams Metts. He was a long time resident of Summerville. His retirement years were divided between a farm in Bamberg and a home in Ladson.
Mr. Metts served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Upon returning, he attended the Citadel and was married to Rosemary Ledwell Metts, deceased. He retired in 1981, after a long career in civil service as an electronics engineer, Radar Division, at Charleston Naval Shipyard.
During the next 35 years, until his death, he became known as a respected bee keeper, sharing knowledge with groups and endowing new bee keepers. In later years, he declared his life's most passionate cause as an educator and advocate for the plight of the honey bee.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Leighanne Metts, two daughters, Kathryn Metts Murray and Bonnie M. Waller (Brian) of Lancaster, SC, and a son David F. Metts, of Ladson; one sister, Juanita M. Wells of James Island; one brother, Albert S. Metts (Peggy) of Gulfport, Miss.; six grandchildren, Amanda Murray of MA, Preston Murray of NY, Kathryn Waller of Rock Hill, Cameron Waller and Matthew Waller, both of Utah and Toni Bush of Bamberg. In addition, there are five great grandsons, nine nieces, and two nephews.
