Minnie and Hamp were married for 51 years prior to his death in 2015. They resided in Cordova for 20 years before the call of the ocean lured them to become permanent residents of St. Helena Island, where they camped and fished the salty tides of Hunting Island as many years as their bodies were able.
Minnie was affectionately known by many as the Daylily Lady. Flowers and plants were Minnie's lifelong companions. Her garden reflected who she was: gentle and colorful. She had a way of nurturing life that extended far beyond the garden beds. Whether sharing cut flowers, offering advice on how to revive a struggling plant, or simply pausing to admire a bloom, Minnie reminded everyone around her to slow down and notice beauty.
Minnie also had a deep affection for cats, finding joy in their quiet companionship, soft purrs, and independent spirits. They brought her comfort, laughter, and warmth, and her home was always a safe and loving place for them.
Minnie will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Her legacy lives on in the gardens she tended, the flowers she cherished, and the many lives she touched through the years.
Family will receive family and friends at Hagen Cemetery in Smoaks, SC for graveside viewing on Monday, February 9, 2026 beginning at 12:00pm followed by a graveside service to begin at 1:00pm.
In her memory, may we plant something, tend it with care, and remember Minnie each time something blooms.
