Nellie Ruth Thomas Roessler's Obituary
Nellie Ruth Thomas Roessler, age 97, passed away April 15, 2025 in Anderson, S.C. She was born March 7, 1928 in Smoaks, S.C. to Martin L. Thomas and Lillie B. Thomas. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, William (Bill) Roessler, and siblings, Virginia Thomas, Martin Thomas, and Ben Thomas.
She graduated from Smoaks High School and moved to Charleston to work as administrative assistant in the Charleston Naval Shipyard. While in Charleston, she was a member of Cherokee United Methodist Church where she served in the choir and in the United Methodist Women. She moved to Anderson to be closer to family and then transferred her membership to Green Pond UMC in Smoaks.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan R. Dirsh (Mike), grandchildren, Sara D. Mickel (Tim), Emily Dirsh (Liam), William Dirsh (Melissa), 5 great grand children, sister in law Lila Thomas, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 23, 2025 at Green Pond United Methodist Church, Smoaks, SC at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be at the church starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.
