Oscar Edwin Barnes' Obituary
Smoaks
Mr. Oscar Edwin Barnes, 87 years of age, died Sunday, October 25, 2009. Mr. Barnes was born in Colleton Co., a son of the late James M. Barnes and Azalia Barnes. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII; he was a retired farmer, a member of the Buckhead Advent Christian Church, the widower of the late Annie Louise Barnes, and a lifelong resident of the community.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at 3:00 p.m., at Buckhead Advent Christian Church, with Rev. J. E. Lyons officiating; interment will be in the Hagan Cemetery, near Smoaks.
Pallbearers will be Danny Crosby, Chris Bunton, Oneal Cassidy, Harry Harrell Jr., Warren Myers, and Steve Lyons.
He is survived by one son, Mr. Gene Edwin Barnes and wife Mary, two daughters, Mrs. Patsy B. Pratt and husband Alonzo, and Rosa B. Mixon, all of Smoaks, three grandchildren, Michelle Lyons of Smoaks, Todd Pratt of Columbia, and Eric Pratt of James Island, four great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, from 6 to 8 P.M., at Ott Funeral Home, in Branchville. At other times, friends may call at the residence of Gene Barnes, 267 Starbrook Rd., Smoaks. Memorials may be made to Buckhead Advent Christian Church, 5251 Buckhead Rd., Smoaks, S.C., 29481.
