Owen Ames Parlin's Obituary
Branchville
Mr. Owen Ames Parlin, 91 years of age, of Branchville, SC, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 1, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Parlin was born in Portland, Maine, a son of the late Emerson and Gladys Parlin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty J. Parlin and a grandson, Michael Parlin Jr. He is survived by his son, Michael (Linda) Parlin of South Carolina, two daughters, Susan Garcia of Florida and Cheryl ( Michael) Winsor of Georgia, a sister, Norma P. Baker, of Maine, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Parlin served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. After his military service, he briefly worked at his dad's candy store in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and retired after 37 years as a maintenance electrician for Sears, Roebuck, and Company in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Parlin also owned and operated Betty's Cakes and Catering of Tampa for over 20 years, with his wife, Betty, before moving to Branchville, SC, nine years ago.
Mr. Parlin was affectionately known as "Mr. Fix-It" and was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ at his former home church, Idlewild Baptist Church of Tampa and Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Branchville. A graveside service to celebrate Mr. Parlin's life will be held at Myrtle Hill Cemetery at 1:00 PM, on November 5, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Grove Park Hospice of Orangeburg, 1324 Gove Park NE, Orangeburg, SC, 29115.
