Rose Varn Dukes' Obituary

Rose Mary Varn Dukes, 86, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Agape Hospice House.
Born in Branchville on December 29, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Fletcher Otis Varn and the late Elizabeth "Bessie" Knight Varn. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, a retired teacher, a graduate of Columbia College and a member of Union United Methodist Church and their Mattie Mathias Circle in Irmo.
Rose is predeceased by her husband, Jerry T. Dukes, and brothers, Glenn Lee "Polly" Varn, Otis Varn and William "Bill" Varn.
She is survived by her four children, Thomas E. "Eddie" Dukes of Lexington, David V. Dukes and his wife Wendy of Norcross, GA, Mark S. Dukes of Irmo, and Elizabeth "Betsy" D. Brown of Anderson, four grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Chris Miller, Christopher Dukes, Garrett and Grayson Brown, and two great-grandchildren Owen and Emery Miller; a brother, Dr. Lucius P. Varn of Orangeburg, sister-in-law, Kathleen "Kass" Varn of Manning, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service and burial will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Ott Cemetery in Branchville, South Carolina. Ott Funeral Home of Branchville, SC, is assisting the family with arrangements.
