Branchville
Mr. S. Heyward Thompson, 90 years of age, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Mr. Thompson was born in Branchville, a son of the late Richard J. and Mamie Thompson. He was an avid golfer; he was inducted into the SC Deaf Golfers Hall of Fame; he was a member of the Santee Super Seniors Golf Association. He played baseball with the Eastern Carolina Baseball League, was a member of Branchville Masonic Lodge #110, York Rite in Orangeburg, Omar Shrine, and the Omar Safety Patrol, and an honorary member of the T&M Hunting Club. Mr. Thompson was also a member of Prospect Southern Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 3:00 P.M., at Prospect Southern Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery, with full Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the church; at other times, friends may call at the residence of Sammie Murray.
He is survived by 16 nieces and nephews and their families, one sister in law, Villa Thompson, and one step sister, Lula Baker. He is preceded in death by 5 brothers, and 2 sisters.
