Samuel St. Clair Stevens
Branchville
Sam Stevens, 85, of Branchville, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012, at his home. He was born June 11, 1927, in Colleton County, to the late Blanco and Hazel Stevens. He was a retired carpenter. He resided in St. Augustine, Florida, most of his adult life. He returned to Branchville, in 2005, to be nearer his brothers and sisters, Donald Stevens (Mary) of Branchville, and sisters Murdell Sandifer of Bamberg and Phyllis Holloway of Branchville. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years, enlisting at the tender age of 15. He was an active member of Edisto Baptist Church and Fishers of Men.
Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Wilda Vivian Tedder, and a brother, Robert Stevens. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Stevens, of Branchville, a daughter, Sandra Gail Neal (Bobby) of North Augusta, a son, Robert Samuel Smith, of Harlem, Ga., a stepson, Charles Lee (Barbara), of Grove Hill, Al., a stepson, Lance Mascheck (Jaclyn, also a granddaughter) of Victoria, Tex., a stepdaughter, Linda Lawrence (Andy) of St. Augustine, Fla. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2012, at Edisto Baptist Church, with Rev. Jakie Walters officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service, in the church fellowship hall.
