Shellie "Vernon" Summers08/29/1928-02/28/2024
Shellie "Vernon'' Summers, 95 of Branchville, SC passed away at the Veteran's Victory House in Walterboro, SC on February 28, 2024. Mr. Vernon was born on August 29, 1928, and was the son of the late Shellie D. and Elizabeth Fairey Summers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia K. Summers.
He worked at Savannah River Site for 35 years and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He dearly loved his family, and he loved being around others laughing and talking. Mr. Vernon was a member of the Branchville Christian Church.
He is survived by his children, Brooks Summers (Mary) of Summerville, David Summers (Kay) of Branchville, and Joye Gibson (Dale) of Laurinburg, NC; six grandchildren, Stewart Summers (Heather), Taylor Summers (Jennifer), Mary Helen Gesling (Brent), Heather Williams (Phillip), Brittany Gibson and Dalton Gibson; and nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Eva Hall, Ruby Hefner, and Darlene Buck; three brothers, James Allen McAlhany, Sheckie Summers, and Terry Summers. He is predeceased by one brother, Cleo Summers and two sisters, Maudelle Dukes Miller and Christine Bickley.Family will receive loved ones at "The Barn," 415 Banbury Drive, Branchville, SC, Friday, March 1, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Cattle Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Veteran's Victory House, 2461 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.
