Encilie "Lee" McAlhany Gunter's Obituary
Encilie "Lee" McAlhany Gunter, 83, of Branchville, SC passed away at Magnolia's of Santee on July 20, 2024. Lee was born in Branchville on October 3, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Perry F. McAlhany and Hattie "Ott" McAlhany.
Lee retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as an Engineering Technician and as the administrative assistant in the Chaplains Office at the Oaks in Orangeburg, SC. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Branchville.
Lee was a passionate walker who did not miss many days walking the town of Branchville over the years with her friends, Rose Myers and Judy Dufford. Lee loved playing her piano, especially church hymns. She was an avid shopper and loved her monthly visits to downtown Charleston. Lee was also a great cook. Her cakes, pies, cookies and fried chicken will be missed.
Lee is survived by her daughter Tammy Gunter (Melanie) of Goose Creek, SC, sons Bryan Gunter (Patti) of Edisto Island, SC, Daryl Gunter (Robin) and Kelsey Gunter (Theresa) both of Branchville, SC, brother Franklin McAlhany (Janet), sisters Frances Jackson and Patricia Dukes, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lee was predeceased by her husband Russell Gunter, sisters Jeanette Wilkowski and Ruby Manus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Branchville United Methodist Church, 419 Barton Street, Branchville, SC. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. A private graveside service will be held at McAlhany Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to the Branchville United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at Magnolias of Santee and Edisto Hospice for their support, kindness, and compassion towards Lee while under their care.
